I shot this image of Jamie Bestwick in 2005 when he first made the sponsorship transition from Osiris Shoes to Etnies. I’d driven by this telephone line covered in shoes a thousand times and always thought it would make a cool shot for something… the shoe sponsor change was perfect. What better way to get rid of the old Osiris shoes? Out with the old in with the new right? We had to convince the maintenance guy at the apartment building next door that we weren’t actually going to throw them up on the line, but otherwise we were able to lay in the middle of the road shooting without a hitch! When you’re shooting in a college town (State College, PA) the “I’m doing a school project” thing is pretty easy to pull off, even if you are 30 years old.

This image was part of a series of similar shots. The photo that ran in the advertisement was slightly different, but this has always been my favorite. Later that year this shot was nominated for an International Color Award in the professional advertising category.
