Photo Archives: A Legend Transferred to Paper
In 2003, two or three days before I moved from California back to the East Coast, I got the opportunity to go to the legendary Mount Baldy full-pipe with a legend in his own right, Brian Blyther. I had grown up seeing pictures of Brian riding vert, and spots like Mount Baldy. Blyther was the Dave Mirra of my era, so to speak. I don’t remember the details, but something happened with Brian’s bike after we made the hike up to the pipe, so he didn’t really get a chance to ride much and we didn’t shoot anything there, but just being there with Blyther was a wild experience. After riding Baldy we drove to a local vert ramp Brian had built in his friends back yard. The friend just happened to be a K9 Cop, and the ramp was surrounded by attack dogs which they had to clear out before we could get back there. We got some cool basic vert shots, a few of which ultimately got published. This was my favorite, a Polaroid Transfer of a one footed X up. Total Blyther style. This image ran in Dig BMX Magazine sometime in 2003.
