“Adult America”

When I lived in PA I would drive by this place every time I drove from State College to Pittsburg. A drive-thru strip club. I don’t quite understand the process, but I had to grab a shot of it when I was headed out of town to move west. Now there’s a giant 20×30 print of the place on my wall. In walks snowboard photographer Tim Zimmerman, who’s originally from Central PA, and says “I know that place.” He’d never been there, but you can’t miss it if you’re from the area.

Driving around the US there are a ton of adult oriented establishments geared toward those with a life on the road (truckers etc.). Some of them are American Icons in themselves. I’ve started documenting some of them as I go, so this is a sample from the series.

Update: Another image from the series has been posted here

Hi Jared, I own Daydreams in Philadelphia in an old warehouse so the next time you’re in Philly stop by and get some great pics

Hey
These are awesome.

Years ago on a magazine tour we stumbled across a supermarket-sized porno & fireworks combo store in Florida. One of the great regrets of my life, that we didn’t properly document that joint.

There is this strech along hwy 41 in S. central WI that has about 3 or 4 adult shops peeperd here and there. Also along Hwy 150 in S. western WI as you near Kenosha and oh crap if you live near there you know what i’m talking about.

The “XXX it 209″ signs are on I-90, just south of Rochester MN. They send you to a place called “Pure Pleasure”.

So I remembered where all those adult stores are located in south EASTERN not western WI. There between Kenosha and Racine. Wow you would think I would know this stuff seeing as how I lived in that part of the state for the first 22 years of my life! D’OH!

Two years ago I drove from Boston to LA twice during the summer, and I thought it was really funny and weird that when you get into the midwest there are hundreds of anti-abortion and anti-pornography billboards but just as many (if not more!) porno stores along the highways.
