Haro 1985 vs. 2010
25 years ago I was a 10-year-old-kid watching Brian Blyther, Ron Wilkerson, Mike Dominguez and Dave Nourie as they came to Massachusetts on tour doing freestyle BMX shows. Yesterday, I drove 5 hours down to Ashland, Oregon (Dave Nourie’s home town) for a 1985 Haro Team 25th Anniversary Reunion Show. The legendary Bob Haro came up for the show, and former Haro and 2-Hip announcer Kevin Martin came out to emcee. The show was complete with 1980s uniforms and an eight-foot tall, eight-foot wide quarterpipe, just like the old days.
All of these guys paved the way for the BMX competitions people now watch on TV, and what BMX Freestyle has become. Without them, there simply wouldn’t be BMX Freestyle. I put together a full gallery for ESPN, which will be up soon, but in the meantime, which you can find here. Also, check out some outtakes after the jump.
