Moronics in Action: 1997-ish

When I moved to California in 1999 I faded out of riding flatland and started riding more ramps and skatepark, mostly because that’s what the guys I liked riding with out there rode. The last full flatland video part I filmed for was Moronics in Action, a New England area video made by Mark Florek around 1997. While I was pulling together some old footage for the interview ESPN did a few weeks back, I came across this section, and figured I’d upload it so I’ve got it archived. The first link is over a minute long. At the time I was really into the whole linking shit forever thing. There were some other clips spread throughout the video, but this is my main part in the video. This video came out about two years before I stopped riding flat regularly, so I’m sure there’s some newer footage somewhere out there, but I haven’t come across more than a couple clips. A few months back I posted an older section from Wire’s “Live Wire” (1995), which you should check out here.

Right on, Jared! I am hoping this gives you the urge to build up a flat sled. I never knew you had such skills, though I kinda figured you supported more flat in the magazine when you were there. Props!

Flat bike is already built. Well, it’s an all purpose bike circa 2000 style with modern parts, but I’ve been riding flat a bunch lately. Can still do a lot of stuff, it’s like riding a bike. I don’t really have any desire to do the “new school” flat stuff, but I just want to play around with my old stuff again. That mid 90s style is my favorite era.

I remember showing Jared a trick by a great flatlander, which was in a Standard Bykes promo in Props video magazine. The song of which i am thinking is off of abbey road. The trick, i thought was pretty sick. Jared went out and pulled it that evening. You definitely have skills jared! Screeching Weasel was in town here a few weeks ago. They played this song and it reminded me of this section.

In the evolutionary chart of Jared’s riding skills, presence of a red bike coincides with a considerable spike in awesomeness. This is scientific fact!

Thanks for the retro post Jared, totally remember that flashy red bike! Check out that giant front sprocket, you could eat dinner off it. Bring back the 90s!
