About . Contact

I (Jared Souney) am a photographer/graphic designer currently living/working in Portland, Oregon. My Studio, Souney Media is located at the intersection of SE 12th and Stark above Sweetpea Baking Co recently moved to a new building in the Historic Flavel Arts District. We share the new, larger studio with Yobeat at 8101 SE Flavel St, Portland, OR 97206.

I have worked in the “Action Sports / Youth Culture” realm since the mid-90s. I grew up riding BMX (with a bit of skateboarding mixed in), and reading BMX and skate magazines. From 1996-1998 I was the acting Art Director of the Boston-based literary/nightlife magazine “STUFF.” From 1999-2001 I worked on Transworld’s Ride BMX Magazine as a Photographer and Associate Editor. In the summer of ’01 I left Transworld to work on my own. I figured that might work for a year at best, but that was ten years ago.

Some of my clients past and present include: Mountain Dew, Target, Levis, ESPN the Magazine, DC Shoe Co., Vans Shoes, Etnies Shoes, Ride BMX Magazine, Dig BMX Magazine Ride BMX UK Edition, BMX Plus!, Transworld Business, Woodward Camps, AOL Sports, PlayStation, Right Guard, Pacific Cycles, Sports Illustrated, Alternative Press, Zoo York, Tony Hawk Inc., Amp Energy, and countless others.

In 2008 I helped relaunch the snowboard Web Site Yobeat. I help out with Creative Direction and strategy of the site, as well as with the apparel line, which is sold both online, and a number of retailers around the country. Through Yobeat, we help brands communicate with a core snow audience of over 200k unique users each month, in the online space. You can see some of the ideas we’ve created for people at marketing.yobeat.com.

New studio photos coming soon after we finish the build and clear the dust, but for now, here’s the old location.

The studio is equipped with two shooting areas, lighting, modern high end digital equipment, and all the design tools to bring a project from start to finish.
